Service Description: The Mental Health Court Outreach program is offered to persons affected by mental illness, associated problems and/or concurrent disorder, who are accused of one or more legal offences.

This program will: conduct psychosocial assessments and establish goals with individuals eligible for diversion; conduct pre-assessments to determine the eligibility of local referrals to the forensic program of the North Bay Regional Health Centre; support the client, family and friends during legal proceedings; refer clients to the appropriate community and mental health service and establish links between them; and offer court diversion functions in compliance with as well as working closely with the office of the Crown Attorney.



Application: Referrals can be made by: person facing charges; family members and friends; police services; crown attorney; defence attorney; judge or justice of the peace; or community organizations. Individual must: - have been accused of a minor offence - have or had previous problems directly related to mental health - have sufficient proof indicating that mental health issues had a direct contribution to the offence committed - pose no clear and serious threat to the community French to follow: Les critères d'admission sont: avoir été accusé d'une infraction mineure; avoir ou avoir déjà eu des problèmes directement liés à la santé mentale; il existe suffisamment de preuves indiquant que les problèmes de santé mentale ont contribué directement à l'infraction commise; et la personne ne pose pas un danger grave ou défini pour la communauté. Les références pour ce service peuvent être effectuées par: la personne qui fait face aux accusations; les membres de la famille/amis; les services de police; l'avocat de la couronne; l'avocat de la défense/avocat de service; le juge ou le juge de paix; et les organismes communautaires.
