Service Description: The program is designed to divert (pre & post-charge) individuals with clinical needs in actual or, emergent substance use and/ or mental health crises away from the criminal justice and hospital-based systems. Core services include the provision of temporary housing & related support services, time to arrange for unmet client needs, provision of high-intensity counselling, care & support, and a safe therapeutic environment to allow for stabilization and management of substance use relapse and/or withdrawal symptoms and/or mental health relapse and crisis, (where appropriate medication management), advocacy, liaison, referral and follow-up.

Application: Referrals accepted from: the district hospital, community-based addiction/mental health providers, Family Health Teams/primary care sector, and self. Individuals presenting with the following problems/ circumstances will be considered for admission: - individuals in crisis/ distress related to mental health, substance use, or concurrent disorders, but with negligible/ absent risk of suicidality and/ or danger to self/ others - individuals with potentially intersecting problems with the criminal justice system - individuals who are homeless (no fixed address) - individuals who are temporarily homeless (recently relocated to the area, evicted, in need of shelter, unable to stay at their regular residence due to domestic instability or crisis) Individuals dealing with a dangerous offence will be reviewed on an individual basis. Individuals being referred to the program through the judicial system will need conditions to follow all aspects of in-house programming.
