Charity Bonspiel Raises $20,000 for Local Prostate Cancer Research

SUDBURY, ON – The skip placed the broom and the event was right on target.

 

It was a great day for a great cause at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club as participants of the Porter Fights Prostate Cancer Charity Bonspiel slid, swept and delivered $20,000 for local prostate cancer research.

 

“We’re very proud of the curlers out there,” says Tannys Laughren, Executive Director of the Northern Cancer Foundation, “we had a lot of help from the community when putting this event together and to see this amount raised towards prostate cancer research is incredible.”

 

The one-day bonspiel saw 14 teams register and nearly 60 people attend dinner at the Idylwylde.

 

“We’re very happy to be hosting this charity bonspiel,” says Idylwylde Golf & Country Club General Manager Gunther Gratzer, “Cancer is a horrible disease that will touch the lives of every Canadian. Together with our community and the Northern Cancer Foundation we’re proud to contribute to local cancer research and cancer care.”

 

This year’s top fundraiser was Bob Cecchetto who brought in over $4,000 in donations.in honour of his sister Marleen. The event website will remain up and running this week for potential donors to pledge their support.
