NCF Celebrates World Cancer Day!

SUDBURY, ON –  The Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF) celebrates World Cancer Day! Today is the one singular initiative under which the entire world unites together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. It takes place every year on February 4th.

This year’s theme is “Not Beyond Us” to take a positive approach to the fight against cancer and highlight the new treatments and solutions within reach. This year, the campaign will focus on four key areas: choosing healthy lives, delivering early detection, achieving treatment for all and maximizing quality of life.

Today the NCF is challenging everyone to show your support, by getting out and doing something healthy at the same time sharing your story.

This is How…It’s Easy:

1.    Choose to do something active and healthy today (i.e. walk, run, yoga, ski, snow-shoe, swim)

2.    Take a selfie doing it

3.    Share your selfie and share why you support the NCF and World Cancer Day on Social Media

4.    Don’t forget to hashtag #NCFSudbury, #WorldCancerDay and #NotBeyondUs.

“Today, I will will be walking with a friend and showing my support for cancer awareness and I hope others will do the same,” says Tannys Laughren, Executive Director of the Northern Cancer Foundation. She adds “Empowering people to make healthy lifestyle choices and reducing the social and environmental risk factors for cancer are key in the fight agaist cancer”.

World Cancer Day aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about cancer, and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action against the disease.

Awareness is recognized as the first step to early detection and improving cancer outcomes, because with few exceptions, early stage cancers are less lethal and more treatable than late stage cancers.

Please help us create cancer awareness today!
