“Sudbury Community Airbandz raises over $120,000 in 3 Years”

SUDBURY, ON – The 70s were ‘Stayin’ Alive’ in the Fraser Auditorium at Laurentian University on Saturday night as 6 teams representing local businesses took to the stage to lip-sync and dance to classic tunes in front of a crowd of over 500.

Sudbury Community Airbandz was an idea hatched by Gougeon Insurance Brokers in the fall of 2015 with the goal of raising $100,000 for the Northern Cancer Foundation in three years.

After travelling through time to revisit hit songs of the 80s in 2016, 90s in 2017 and finally the 70s this year, it was announced that the event had raised $121,110 for the fight against cancer in our community.

The Walden Group, one of the competing teams and 2017 Sudbury Community Airbandz Champion, made a surprise donation of $15,000 to boost the amount raised over the $100,000 goal.

“$100,000 is a lot of money, and to raise it in three years with only three events is nothing short of incredible. Gougeon Insurance Brokers are amazing community advocates and we can’t thank them enough for their hard work,” says Tannys Laughren, Northern Cancer Foundation Executive Director. “The performances were so good and The Walden Group really put the icing on the cake with their surprise donation. We’re lucky to have this great support for our local cancer centre.”

After all of the performances took place, Sudbury Credit Union was crowned the 2018 Sudbury Community Airbandz Champion for their Queen medley. While there can only be one champion, everyone walked away from the Fraser Auditorium as winners for supporting a great local cause.

“What an incredible three years, from the first Sudbury Community Airbandz in 2016 to the last one on Saturday, February 3, 2018! Thank you to all our participating teams, sponsors, people who came to the events, the Greater Sudbury community! YOU made this event the success it was. It truly was Community Airbandz. Together, we have impacted the fight against cancer in our community!” Judy Gougeon, President of Gougeon Insurance Brokers.
